Mitt Romney and the 7 Characteristics of Charismatic Leadership

Can a Charisma Deficit Reveal Underlying Weaknesses in Leadership?

Mitt Romney’s charisma deficit will be his ultimate undoing. But it’s not as simple or superficial as some people think. Ultimately, charismatic leadership is a relationship with followers. And it’s a relationship that reveals volumes about who the leaders are and what they represent.

"Charisma is the result of effective leadership,
not the other way around."

The Leader as Historical Marker: Seven Strategies of Leaders Who Symbolized their Times & Shaped Our Futures
By | 04/29/2011 11:31PM | BACKGROUND

How Does Leadership Evolve to Reflect the Advancements of Society and What Can Leaders Do to Better Navigate this Progression?

The Leader as the Essence of the Age

On a bitter cold January afternoon, with Capitol Hill covered in snow, John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th President of the United States. With a recognition of the gravity of the occasion, Kennedy began his inaugural address: “We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom—symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning—signifying renewal, as well as change.” Beginning to build a shared bond with Americans, he continues “…Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage…” And with the passing of this historical moment, the young Senator from Massachusetts became the new symbol of American leadership.

Scholars today consider Kennedy’s inaugural address […]

"Nothing in the world is more flexible and yielding than water.
Yet when it attacks the firm and the strong, none can
withstand it, because they have no way to change it.
So the flexible overcome the adamant,
the yielding overcome the forceful."
-Lao Tzu
